This Saturday saw the Colts take a rest from league action to play White Eagles in the semi final of the Gardener Cup.Colts took an early lead on 5 mins through Alex Conway, a great header at the back post to powerful for the Eagles keeper to keep out. Eagles responded right away with a good goal, it was then pretty much even throughout the first half but Wael-Rach Pocock-Kahla had other ideas scoring from a Conway knock down 2-1 up! Half time 2-1 Colts.

No changes for the second half and the Colts stepped up and ran away with it. Shane Hills scored to make it 3-1 after cutting in from the left and beating their keeper at the near post. Wael then notched his second goal 4-1 and the celebrations went wild taking his shirt off and celebrating in front of Bridgwater Wolves who we play in the final! And he didn’t even get a booking for it. Will Mumby replaced the excellent Dan Cooke, Joey Conway replaced Hills and manager Andy Springer replaced the beast of a captain Matthew Charles. Springer oozed class and helped in the build up to Joeys goal! 5-1 full time score! The back 4 with Chris McKee who’s distribution was first class again, the returning Owen Lindsay rock solid, Callum Corns lead well and lost 2 balls, Sam Bate mr Excellent. Midfield middle of Cooke, Joel Durkin who was excellent and man of the match Alex Conway. Wael out wide left was brilliant and Ben Evett who every opponent wants to kick was excellent. Hills and Harris up top ran themselves into the ground.

With the cup final in the bag. News filtered through to the Bishops Lydeard Colts Fc camp! Galmington had lost at Minehead which meant with 1 game left Galmington can’t catch us! DIVISION 3 CHAMPIONS!!!! Up the colts’

Well done boys

Andy Springer & Carl Salter

Another hard earned victory for the Ladies Reserves today against a team that set up to defend and executed it very well but we managed to keep fighting and get the goals the performance deserved. If we were more clinical it could’ve been 7/8! A lot of really impressive performances out there today! Goals from Jodie Dingle and Willow Dyke; with her First Ladies goal!! Spooner went to Emily Knott for falling over the respect barrier during the warm up (but at great speed) 🙈 and Player of the Match went to Mia Cridge for a dominant display in the centre of midfield. Another 3 points and another clean sheet so myself and Suze are very proud of every single one of you! Let’s keep pushing and finish the season in style!

Taunton North 1-1 U 15 Boys

A great result saw Bishops Lydeard U15’s play Taunton North, 1st v 2nd place, a vital game with only 2 more games after this one to play, with Lydeard leading them by 2 points.

It was a mud bath of a pitch, which got worse as the rain kept coming down. This was a battle Royale and lived up to the billing. Taunton North edged it but it remained 0-0 at half time.

Both teams had chances but could not convert them. The second half was much of the same, the Lydeard lads dug deep and were unlucky to go 1-0 down. Lydeard continued to press and defend and eventually got the break through they deserved with a great equaliser from Josh Compton.

Lydeard still had chances but they also defended the last 15 mins like LION’s, every player gave 150% to earn amazing draw and keep Lyeard 2 points clear at the top of Div 2 with 2 games left.

Combe Ladies 0-7 BLAFC Ladies Reserves

Lydeard Ladies Reserves travelled to Combe St Nicholas today for their first game of the new year and produced a dominant display in a 7-0 victory. The game was all but settled by half time as Lydeard ran riot notching 5 before the break and could’ve had more, they passed the ball around with confidence and ease pushing Combe further and further back. The second half was a professional controlled performance as Lydeard continued to dominate possession and keep focused around a Combe team that was beginning to get more and more rattled, a further two goals topped off a fine days work and a perfect start to the new year!

Goals today were; two fine finishes from Annie, two from Jodie Dingle on her return to action, Emily Knott got her 12th of the season with a little help from the keeper 😉 Ellie Buffham grabbed her first goal for the ladies reserves and it was a screamer of a hit (I’m still convinced it was meant to be a cross) and Shakira Adrianna Howard also scored on her return after a very long injury lay off! Player of the match went to Ruth Shackleton for a fine display in the centre of the park! And unfortunately spooner went to the coach for forgetting to bring the balls and cones! 🙈

A great start to the year and now we go again next week!

Our under 16 girls travelled to Somerton Sports Ground on Saturday to face an unbeaten Yeovil side who beat us 5 – 0 at Darby Way at the beginning of the season. After a very successful season for Yeovil ladies last season, who gained promotion into the Women’s Super League first division, we were anticipating a David Vs Goliath encounter against the future stars of their club. Coaching duo Suze and Dawna had thought carefully about the tactics for the game and were determined to put up a good fight. Hollie Golding was deployed to ‘man mark’ Yeovil’s star player Megan Robinson who has over 20 goals to her name already this season. A thrilling first half saw BLAFC hitting Yeovil on the counter attack time and time again with forward players Kayleigh Riley, Ellen Broadway, Maisie Williams and Willow Dyke working tirelessly up and down the pitch. BLAFC went 1-0 up after a superb run down the right wing by Riley resulted in a excellent cross and finish from Ellen Broadway. Yeovil responded almost immediately when Robinson managed to slip away from the BLAFC defence and slot the ball home.

Half time 1 – 1 with the game there for the taking the girls were encouraged to move the ball forward quicker to release Riley and get her more chances in front of goal. BLAFC didn’t have to wait long for the opportunities to come with Riley’s speed allowing her 3 one on one situations in quick succession. 2 of which she converted confidently and one cleared desperately off the line by a Yeovil defender. 3 – 1 BLAFC and unbeaten Yeovil with no answers to Lydeards new style of play. Lydeard final goal came with 10 mins to go when another run from Riley down the wing saw an pin point cross dispatched expertly by Broadway once again.

4-1 up with 8 mins left on the clock Lydeard thought they had the game in the bag. After working relentlessly to keep striker Robinson quiet Lydeard took their foot off the gas and started to leave space for the Yeovil players. Two excellently finished goals by Robinson in the last 6 mins saw Yeovil increase their work rate and put pressure on a very tired Lydeard team.

The final whistle couldn’t of come quick enough as the ref blew for full time, spectators and coaches alike could breath again as the excitement of what we all had achieved set in.

A superb performance from every Lydeard player meant the team achieved the unbelievable. Player of the match went jointly to Riley for her outstanding work rate, two fantastic goals and team play setting up the other two goals and Hollie Golding who up against a South West Player showed her true class.

Supporters player went to Riley as well but with a special mention for Golding.

A very proud moment for Bishops Lydeard coaches Suze and Dawna who always believed the girls had the ability to match Yeovil’s elite.

We will meet Yeovil again in the Semi Final of the Somerset County Cup, an encounter that promises to be an exciting game of football.

Sunday 20th NovemberThe Ladies Reserves travelled to Yeovil today to take on an unbeaten Pen Mill side and came home with 3 goals and 3 points after putting on another dominant display. It took Lydeard just 10 minutes to get the breakthrough when the on fire Emily Knott was put through on goal and calmly slotted home. From then on it was all Lydeard as they moved the ball well on a difficult playing surface and they made their dominance count with Knotty grabbing her second to put her season tally into double figures with her 10th in 9 games! The second half was more of the same as Lydeard continued to limit Pen Mill to few touches and they put the gloss on a fine display when Annie burst down the left and slotted home for a debut goal. There could’ve been more as Lydeard kept creating chances but just couldn’t get the extra goals the performance deserved! A fantastic team performance which has really made a huge statement of intent in our push for a league title! Spooner went to Kayleigh Campbell and player of the match went to Kelsey Shipway for a commanding performance between the sticks picking up a second successive clean sheet! A few bonuses from today aswell including Natalie Poole being back in action after 6 months away and Charlotte Smiith playing outfield creating chances and testing the keeper from outside the box! All In all a job well done!

Colts remain unbeaten in the league as they pick 3 valuable points. Colts started brightly and were ahead ok 5 mins as Joey Conway scored. Joey Kaczorek got the last touch from a Ben Evett cross 2-0. And 2 minutes later Conway scored again to out colts 3-0 up after 22 mins. Colts kept pressing with the Grasshoppers keeper making 4/5 top notch saves. In typical colts style here comes the collapse Grasshoppers scored 3 goals in 7 minutes. Half time 3-3.The halftime team talk was straight to the point and brutal. Second half the colts got their act together but had man of the match Chris McKee making some vital saves. With the game being scrappy due to the pitch cutting up, the game changed when the ref gave a soft penalty to the colts. Up stepped captain Matthew Charles who cooly sent the keeper the wrong way 4-3 colts. Grasshoppers kept coming but the back 4 of Carl Salter, Adam Cornish, Callum Corns and Sam Bate stood strong helped out by kaz, Matt Melhuish, Joel Durkin Owen Lindsay, Evett and Joe Wakeman. If anyone see’s melly, ask him about his 1 on 1 at the end. With the Grasshoppers pressing Shane Hills finished the game with 2 good finishes. Colts deserved the 3 points but made it hard work.

After last weeks cup drama it was a case of back to business in the league for lydeard as they ran riot in a 9-0 victory for over Merriot ladies. In a dominant first half lydeard made their pressure count notching 4 goals before half time. The second half was a display worthy of winning any match as lydeard controlled possession and passed the ball around the team with confidence and conviction and scored 5 more goals and limiting Merriot to very few touches of the ball. All in all a comfortable and impressive afternoon! Goal scorers were as follows.. A hat-trick for Kitty Wells, two for Billie Denny, two for Sophie Buck and two for Kayleigh Campbell! Spooner went to Emily Knott for tripping herself up on multiple occasions, and player of the match went to Laura Wadham who stayed cool calm and collected in possession and broke up Merriots wide play the whole 90 minutes producing a faultless display both offensively and defensively .Thank you to those who came to show their support today!

Big games to come so we continue this form and really show everyone just how good we can be!!

This game saw us come in 8-0 winners against Galmington Dragon HawksA Scrappy start to this game, but we soon got in our stride and started playing some good football, Once the first goal was scored it was never in doubt. We battled well and the goals came, we led 5-0 at halftime.

The second half, we gave players some rest time and changed some positions, Adam Naish was able to complete a fine hatrick on taking our Tally to 8 goals, other scorers Ravi Khakhar, Ben Highfield, Cial Marvin, Tom Magee, Josh Compton.

Another solid defensive display by all, now 3 points clear at the top but played a game more than Taunton Youth in 2nd
