A great result saw Bishops Lydeard U15’s play Taunton North, 1st v 2nd place, a vital game with only 2 more games after this one to play, with Lydeard leading them by 2 points.
It was a mud bath of a pitch, which got worse as the rain kept coming down. This was a battle Royale and lived up to the billing. Taunton North edged it but it remained 0-0 at half time.
Both teams had chances but could not convert them. The second half was much of the same, the Lydeard lads dug deep and were unlucky to go 1-0 down. Lydeard continued to press and defend and eventually got the break through they deserved with a great equaliser from Josh Compton.
Lydeard still had chances but they also defended the last 15 mins like LION’s, every player gave 150% to earn amazing draw and keep Lyeard 2 points clear at the top of Div 2 with 2 games left.
This game saw us come in 8-0 winners against Galmington Dragon HawksA Scrappy start to this game, but we soon got in our stride and started playing some good football, Once the first goal was scored it was never in doubt. We battled well and the goals came, we led 5-0 at halftime.
The second half, we gave players some rest time and changed some positions, Adam Naish was able to complete a fine hatrick on taking our Tally to 8 goals, other scorers Ravi Khakhar, Ben Highfield, Cial Marvin, Tom Magee, Josh Compton.
Another solid defensive display by all, now 3 points clear at the top but played a game more than Taunton Youth in 2nd
MOM Dom Hill and Adam Naish
Another 4-2 win see’s our U15 Squad going joint top of the league with another great performance. With 3 players away we had a squad of 12. Not playing for 2 weeks certainly showed early on. We grew into the game and soon went 1-0 down. Rhode lane were a good team and we had to work hard for the win today, an equaliser from Ben Highfield brought us level, we soon gave another goal away and went 2-1 down, we were not tackling hard enough in the middle third of the pitch. We were still playing well and soon levelled again with a goal from Adam Naish. 2-2 at half time.
Team talk done, The focus was on winning the ball back in the middle third of the park, The players listened and did this which saw us take more control of the game although Rhode Lane still played very well, we battled and kept going which led to us taking the lead with a goal from our new signing Albie Smith and put us in the lead for the first time, shortly after the best goal of the game came from quick simple passing spreading the ball out wide to Ben Highfield who crossed a fantastic low ball across the box which was met by Josh Compton to slot the ball home and make in a fantastic 4-2 win. Every player played their part in what was a very tough competative game. Some great saves from Harrison Freeman and a good 1st performance from Albie Smith were pleasing
MOM’s today were Tom Magee and Sam Whitaker for outstanding performances
U15’s 10-0 Wembdon Saints
A Great game today wearing our new kit for the first time on the first teams pitch.
Our opposition could only field 10 players so in the spirit of the game we only played 10 players. The first half saw a commanding performance having 85% of possession, we had numerous chances including 2 penalties for blatant fouls which saw us go in at half time 6-0 up. The second half was much of the same with us adding another 4 goals. Another good performance today that secures us the full points and keeps us marching on, goal scorers as follows Ben H 3, Adam 3, Ravi 2 and Josh 2. We limited the opposition to 1 shot which was well saved by Harrison rushing out and making a great save. MOM today was Charlie Uff for a superb performance in defence.
The Under 15’s arrived at Worle School, ready to prove themselves against Team Mendip; who were one of their toughest opposition last season, knocking them out of the cup. The girls showed their intent right from the off with a carefully placed strike from Maisie Williams within two minutes of the start. This was followed 5 minutes laters by a superb cross…which turned into a shot from Kayleigh Riley. For the remainder of this half the girls worked tirelessly pressing the ball and passing with precision, with goals coming thick and fast as a rewards for their efforts. The half time score was 7-0 after Maisie Williams completed her hat-trick, two well taken goals from Ellen Broadway, and a well deserved goal for Kayleigh Riley and Rhiannon Campbell-Farmer.
The second half started with Team Mendip showing determination to not repeat the first half, and put Lydeard under some pressure resulting in some shots on target. The back three led by Rebekah Crudge held firm and allowed the girls to settle and the passing improved, allowing a further five goals to be scored. It could easily have been more had Team Mendips keeper had not made as many good saves. Second half scorers were Jaz Crook, Willow Dyke, a flukey own goal and a further two from Broadway taking her tally to 4! Every player worked hard throughout the 80 minutes and it was a performance to be proud of.
Player of the Match: Maisie Williams
