We beat Minehead FC 4-3 in a cup match this morning, the goal scorers were Eddy Beaufoy with one and Harry Scott got himself a hat-trick. Ellis Lowe was man of the match for his work rate in midfield.
Sunday 27th saw us play Avishayes in the cup. The first half saw Callum Jones hitting the bar numerous times we could have easily been 4-1 up, unfortunately we came in at half time 0-1 down.
The Second half saw us get a great equaliser through Ben H, then Callum Jones bad luck continued as he hit the bar numerous times again. Ravi stepped up with a cracking shot to give us a great deserved lead. A couple of good saves from Harrison kept us on level terms. With only 5 mins left the ref gave Avishayes a penalty for shirt grabbing which even their coach couldn’t believe. The penalty was converted and saw us go into extra time.
Still a close game (it should have been 8-1 to us) and into the last period of extra time a fantastic set up by Sam W saw Callum Jones finally hit the back of the net with a great header. 3-2 to Lydeard and in to the next round of the cup.
The Under 15’s arrived at Worle School, ready to prove themselves against Team Mendip; who were one of their toughest opposition last season, knocking them out of the cup. The girls showed their intent right from the off with a carefully placed strike from Maisie Williams within two minutes of the start. This was followed 5 minutes laters by a superb cross…which turned into a shot from Kayleigh Riley. For the remainder of this half the girls worked tirelessly pressing the ball and passing with precision, with goals coming thick and fast as a rewards for their efforts. The half time score was 7-0 after Maisie Williams completed her hat-trick, two well taken goals from Ellen Broadway, and a well deserved goal for Kayleigh Riley and Rhiannon Campbell-Farmer.
The second half started with Team Mendip showing determination to not repeat the first half, and put Lydeard under some pressure resulting in some shots on target. The back three led by Rebekah Crudge held firm and allowed the girls to settle and the passing improved, allowing a further five goals to be scored. It could easily have been more had Team Mendips keeper had not made as many good saves. Second half scorers were Jaz Crook, Willow Dyke, a flukey own goal and a further two from Broadway taking her tally to 4! Every player worked hard throughout the 80 minutes and it was a performance to be proud of.
Player of the Match: Maisie Williams
The Under 18’s started their league campaign with a 1-0 win over Purnell Sports today. It was a good game of football with an all round team performance. We have had some players rejoin us and it was good to have them back. The winner came from Ben Coomber just before half time. Man of the match today was Will Mumby. Well played lads.
***Under 14’s Match Report***
Our first game of the season saw us come out as winners by 4-2 against newly promoted Avishayes who were runners up in Div 2 last season.
It was a good close game which finished 1-1 at half time, both teams had played well; with Lydeard having more chances and more possession.
After the team talk Lydeard went out and again had more possession, the team looked good and solid throughout for our first game back.
Lydeard went ahead and extended the lead to 4-1 with Ben Highfield and Callum Jones scoring some cracking goals, netting a brace each.
Lydeard did concede a sloppy goal near the end though!
The final score 4-2 Lydeard a great start to the season for Lydeard and a great performance for the first game back.
